Structural Bridge Design

March 23, 2018

3:00-5:00pm

Open to 1st to 5th grade students
Have you ever wondered… what makes a bridge strong, why bridges look the way they do, or what’s going on with those criss-cross things on the sides? Mr. Sky Peck (retired engineer) will talk about things that engineers need to think about in order to design strength into a bridge. Then the kids will get to build their own bridge structures and, if they dare, put their created structures to a test of strength.
Cost is $10 per student.

Tessellations - Exploring pattern of repeating shapes

March 30, 2018

3:00-5:00pm

Open to 1st - 5th grade students
Artist M.C. Escher was a master of tessellations! Lead by Mrs. Amy Glover (math teacher) we will explore polygons using trial and error to discover which shapes tessellate, and which do not. Then, using inspiration from Escher, we will create our own crazy tessellation art using mathematical techniques of rotation, reflection, and translation.
Cost is $10 per student.
